Collaborations: Composting & Gardening with PS 38

In keeping with our mission to build community,  the Pacific Street Brooklyn Bear’s is on our second year of collaborating with youth.

Ms. Scharf’s kindergartners from PS 38 will join us for May and June on a composting and gardening collaboration at the Bear’s garden.

Once a week for two months, the kids will come in and explore the garden’s plant and wildlife: fish, lilacs, and snails!

They’ll grow their own lettuce, radish and beans from seed.    Check their crop’s progress every week and, hopefully, have a bounty at the end of June!

As part of the collaboration, Ms. Scharf’s class brings their fruit and veggie scraps left over from their snacks to add to our compost bin.  They’ll explore the positive impact of converting our food matter into valuable compost for the plants in the garden rather than adding to the ever growing garbage tonnage.
