Our community gardens are a place where we come together in harmony.
Last fall, the Pacific Street Bear’s garden collaborated with several local organizations to partner in creative projects with the garden as both focal point and backdrop.
One organization that works with young mothers, the Brooklyn Young Mother’s Collective, came in for an afternoon exploration and photo shoot.
They were working on a photographic journal including photos of their daily lives and were excited to include the community garden in their visual project. The visitors were impressed to find such an oasis in the middle of Flatbush Avenue.
And who doesn’t benefit from a space for self-reflection and calm thought in the middle of urban chaos? Gardens offer that and so much more, and must remain a relevant aspect of the city landscape.
This upcoming season, we hope to continue our outreach in collaborationg with youth groups and schools in our vibrant community. Stay tuned!
